Janet Farnsworth
John has been involved with youth services since 1990. He lived in California, Oregon, and Hawaii and was raised in a family of 9 children before moving to Utah.

Wanting to make a difference, he pursued a career in law enforcement and graduated from the police academy. He even considered becoming an attorney like his father. Then he realized that, for him, being an attorney or in law enforcement was more of a reactionary approach. He felt he could do more for kids by working on the preventative side. Through his work at West Ridge, he could do more to help families.

As an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, and motorcycles; John has a special place in his heart for recreational therapy and the experiential benefits it holds for youth. He completed his Intermediate EMT training and is always finding ways to help using his varied skills.

John also enjoys sports, has completed numerous 100 and 200-mile bicycle endurance races and remains an avid fly fisherman. He speaks fluent Spanish and enjoys making homemade salsa with the vegetables he grows in his garden. He has been married to his sweetheart since 2000, and they have five beautiful children. John enjoys serving in his community, his church, and attending his kids’ activities.

John started his education in Construction Management and Psychology and attended both Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University. He then graduated from Brigham Young University with an Executive Master’s Degree in Public Administration and has enjoyed making friends with donors and in campus capital development with his job as Director of Development.
