RESIDENTIAL THERAPIST

Mac Butler

Mac Butler is a residential therapist at West Ridge Academy. He became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, LCSW in 1994 and has made it his life goal to help people. Mac has devoted his skill set to working with both juveniles and adults throughout his career. He successfully works through any handicaps or trauma they experienced and teaches many therapeutic coping skills to use throughout their lifetimes.

Mac has worked and helped hundreds of youth and their families, and as a former investigator for the DCFS, he literally saved lives. His passion to help people has taken him to several therapeutic clinics and organizations throughout his career—all while having the focus of Equine-assisted therapy, along with his partner, China, right by his side. China is one of many beautiful horses from Unbridled Hope and Healing, a successful Equine-assisted therapy organization where Mac and his fellow therapists help bring safe homes to horses.

Most of these horses have been abused and neglected. In turn, the horses are therapy animals for the youth at West Ridge Academy. Both help his clients find success from the program for both horse and human alike. Mac is a real-life horse whisperer. He communicates with his horses and the experience connects all who are there watching and listening.

Mac is happily married and together they are raising two dogs. Mac enjoys the great outdoors and the beautiful mountain ranges and pastures of Utah. He has been known to pick a song or two. While Mac is a bit shy, his dogs are far from that so please scratch their ears if they are around.
